What are removable dentures?
Removable partial dentures usually consist of replacement teeth attached to pink or gum-colored plastic bases, which are connected by metal framework. Partial dentures can be constructed out of a metal and acrylic composition or completely out of acrylic. Metal partials are considered stronger structurally, thinner and more hygienic than an acrylic partial. Acrylic partials are usually recommended as a transitional or temporary partial. Depending on the teeth remaining in your mouth, partial dentures may be completely tooth supported, tissue/tooth supported, or implant/tissue supported.
A denture is the most economical way to replace missing teeth. However, do not set your expectations too high for chewing ability and aesthetics. As a long-term denture user, you will experience sore gums and progressive bone resorption. You should remember that you need to care for a denture as carefully as you would look after your natural teeth.
